Haste To The Wedding

by Joy Masters on November 3, 2013

My little brother got married to a great girl recently and I had the very nervous honor* of making their rings. The adorable thing was, they both asked me, independently, to make a ring as a surprise for the other and each one wanted a puzzle piece involved. They are each other’s missing piece, they say… awwww…sniffle…

Thanks for letting me be a part of your day this way guys! I wish you every happiness.

For the bride: I did a white gold puzzle piece band (groom’s idea) with an emerald shaped rose-cut white sapphire. I did the design in CAD, had it printed and cast then hand finished it and bezel set the stone.

For him: I made a band of white gold and sterling silver, hammered all and oxidized the silver. His puzzle piece is engraved on the inside.

(I didn’t make her plain band, she already had that. So, I can not take credit there.)

* I have never made forevertimes rings before! I was so nervous!

I love trees!

by Joy Masters on September 2, 2013

I really do! My favorite was an old willow tree next to my parents’ house. Until dAd, the reaper, took it down. All right, in all fairness, the willow leaves were causing havoc for our yard and the neighbor’s. And maybe, just maybe, the willow wasn’t as healthy and I liked to think it was. AND dAd loves to use his toys. Who can blame him? Anyhoo, my love affair with trees had already started.

I have been taking a lot of pictures looking up through trees. Yep. I have. Like this:

I love the way the sun looks filtered through the branches and leaves. Here is my first attempt of recreating that in metal. Although this one is slightly more wintry than the photo, you get the idea.

Brass with citrine chips.

Happy Belated Beltane!

May 6, 2012

Ah, Beltane. Typically celebrated on May 1st as the midway point between Spring Equinox and Summer Solstice. Evidently, the astronomical midway point for this typically falls somewhere later, between May 5th or 7th. So, I am technically, astronomically, perfectly on time.  Thank you Wikipedia. May is a great month in NYC. It means there is […]
